The Chess Olympiad 2012 will take place in Turkey
Everybody knows that the next Olympiad will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, in one of the most successful chess nations Russia. But where will the Olympians travel in 2012?
Yesterday, at the 79th FIDE Congress the delegates had to choose between Budva (Montenegro) and Istanbul (Turkey). In the end the winner was Istanbul with a result of 90 pros against 40 pros for Budva. And so the player will play satranç (Turkish for Chess) for a second time after the Olympiad in 2000. Ali Nihat Yazıcı, the president of the Turkish Chess Federation, was full of praise for the current chess Olympiad in Dresden: “The organization is outstanding and excellent. Thank you for this great tournament”, he said.
The president of the Turkish Chess Federation and his staff were very happy about the decision and are looking forward to hosting the chess teams from all over the world in Istanbul.
